Destructor Bridge Demolition film

16 Jul 2015

A new film, produced by Crest Nicholson, shows progresss on the replacement of the Destructor Bridge in Bath.

The bridge project is part of the Bath City Riverside Enterprise area redevelopment. The old bridge will be replaced by a new 2 lane traffic bridge with dedicated cycle and pedestrian areas.

Destructor bridge got its unusual name because it was built to provide access from the city’s scavenger yard to an incinerator (known as the Destructor) on the opposite side of the river.

Destructor bridge is one of three bridge projects currently underway on the river in Bath,  Victoria Bridge has undergone extensive restoration and was reopened in spring 2015.

Alongside Bath's historic bridges, a new bridge is being designed to link the North and South quays.  This pedestrian and cycling bridge is the subject of an open design competition, and 6 shortlisted design teams are currently working up their proposals for consideration by an expert jury.
